Background
Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ) has a unique educational philosophy centered on three core pillars: Liberal Arts, Sustainable Development, and Entrepreneurship (LSE). The Liberal Arts pillar encourages students to develop broad, critical, and collaborative thinking. Sustainable Development emphasizes the importance of education's contribution to national development and environmental sustainability. Meanwhile, Entrepreneurship fosters innovative and creative problem-solving. Additionally, UPJ has a primary focus on Urban Development and Urban Lifestyle, which relate to sustainable urban development and understanding urban lifestyles.
UPJ students can take KOTA courses starting from the second semester onwards. First-year students follow a predetermined course package according to their respective programs. The selection of KOTA courses is flexible and can be adjusted based on the policies of the program and academic advisors. It is recommended that each program develops specific guidelines to assist students in selecting and taking KOTA courses.
General Requirements for Taking KOTA Courses in the 2019 Curriculum
KOTA courses are elective courses that can be taken by all UPJ students from the second semester onward. These courses are divided into five main clusters related to urban issues. Students can choose clusters based on their interests and consult with their academic advisors. Each student is required to take at least three KOTA courses from three different clusters to fulfill graduation requirements.
The selection of KOTA courses is flexible; students can choose courses from various programs and do not have to follow a specific sequence. Students are also allowed to take more than three KOTA courses if they wish to deepen their knowledge in a particular field. The assessment of KOTA courses follows UPJ's academic regulations. Students who do not pass a KOTA course can replace it with another KOTA course after obtaining approval from their academic advisor.
